?Mineralogy for Engineers? is to provide basic concepts about minerals and highlight the importance of mineralogical studies to engineers and executives working in various fields such as mineral processing, metal extraction (metallurgy) and in chemical industries which manufacture mineral based products. Although, there are many text books available from abroad dealing extensively on various aspects of mineralogy, their immediate availability may not be possible to all. This book covers comprehensively about various physical and chemical properties of minerals, their origin and occurrence and various methods of identification. The importance of mineralogical studies at various stages during prospecting and exploration of ores and mineral processing is emphasized in chapter on Applied Mineralogy. In section two, description of various minerals, their industrial uses, occurrence, reserves and production are provided. A separate chapter on mineral processing is included as it is an important operation to utilize low and lean grade mined ores. A note on mineral legislation and mines regulations in India and related environmental regulations are included.
The purpose of this book is also to make available to students in metallurgy, chemical engineering and applied geology, since this book covers various aspects on minerals in a single volume. As this book covers brief and concise information on various uses and availability of minerals may attract general readers in public.
