This edited volume emphasizes the importance of intermolecular interactions in solid-state X-ray crystal structures of small molecules in the context of crystal engineering. Crystal structures give the most definite understanding of the intermolecular interactions and crystal packing. Due to subtle and complex nature of the self-assembly process, the accurate prediction of the final structure is quite impossible. The recognition event between a set of molecular components is the outcome of the mutual interactions through various intermolecular interactions that is in operation. Hydrogen bonding and other non-covalent interactions have been successfully utilized in building final structures as they accurately reflect the hierarchy of intermolecular interactions.
This edited book is divided into fifteen chapters which comprehensively describe the state-of-the-art in characterization of solid-state structures using X-ray diffraction in the context of crystal engineering. The multidimensional views of this volume will encourage and attract students and young researchers towards crystallography & crystal engineering. The researchers across the country have contributed their research articles to this volume. So, I hope this volume sheds light on the potentiality of intermolecular interactions in building solid-state structures.
