“Narrating Bharatvarsha” This book endeavours to go at the origin of the phrase ?Idea of India? first, and then read it in relation with Rabindranath Tagore who was the first to use it. Although, the phrase has assumed sheer political connotations over the years, this was not the case with Tagore. This book argues that Tagore?s ?Idea of India? is not merely political, and, therefore, exclusive. It endeavours to establish that Tagore had an admirably inclusive ?Idea of India? which did take into account the issues of the place of women, religion, and caste in Bharatvarsha. In order to prove this contention, this book extensively discusses Tagore?s two most commented upon novels ? Gora (1910), and The Home the World (1916).
